I have a house built in the early 40s. The basement has old 8" tiles. I'm not sure what they are made of. Ceramic? Something else? Anyway, can I lay self-stick tiles on these if I clean them really really well? I'm trying to make the family room more homey. My new house has 12" self-stick tiles in a basement room and it looks nice. It feels like they just laid them right on the cement.

I currently live in Michigan. Unlike the other folks of this state, I was lucky to find a decent job out of college here. I live in Lansing. I am looking for homes in Dimondale, Eaton Rapids, Grand Ledge, Mulliken, Delta Township and Mulliken, if you feel like searching on my behalf.

Now, the meat of my question.
Other than the SEV value being roughly 2x the price of the house, what are some other basic things that I should watch out for?
What price should i expect per/sq ft?
What is the difference between SEV, Assessed value, and taxable value, and which serves what purpose?
What is an estimated TCV?
What types of heating/cooling systems are the most expensive?
What heating/cooling systems are considered a "selling point"?
What determines square footage?
How much (average)is the price of a typical roof for a 1000 sft house?
What can I expect to pay to recarpet/re-drywall?
How much of paint/drywall/carpet/roof can i deduct from the cost of house upon offering?

I am moving into a small studio. The main area is a large regtangle. There is a full wall of built in bookcases along the far narrow wall. Directly in front of that is a built in platform bed. Currently the bookcase wall, bed and all of the main room trim is painted a peachy color. The walls are your typical apartment off white/egg shell color. My furniture is black and my accent color is red with some sage green. All of my wood furniture is a natural cherry color. What color should I have the bookcase, trim and bed painted. I am leaning towards either bright white or the same color as the walls. Any ideas?

Are you happy with yours? I'm not looking to spend $1,000 or anything like that, but something under $500 would be nice. Thanks.

I told him his price per sq feet was way too high, and he said "well, you have add 100 sq. ft. to that because we're fininhing the stairs and putting in a knee-wall". It that right? How are the stairs usually taken into account so you can compare quotes?

I just got this coffee table that has a design on top that consists of bamboo like sticks glued on. Many of the sticks started to come loose and I just ended up removing them with the plan of just staining the table. Anyhow, there are a few sticks that are really hard to get off. Is there a clever trick to loosen the glue underneath to make them come off easier?

Basically, I want to know if there is any difference in the sizing. Is it possible to easily remove panels from a non-integrated dishwasher to make it fit under a worktop? Surely no one has a dishwasher freestanding (i.e. not hidden uner a worktop) in their kitchen? Or is it the width that's different?

We just bought a sectional and we just eye balled how big it was if the measurements are:
RHF Sofabed
36 (W) X 68 (D) X 40 (H) inches
Wedge - Saddle
36 (W) X 62 (D) X 40 (H) inches
LHF Reclining Sofa - Saddle
68 (W) X 36 (D) X 40 (H) inches
We don't understand what the difference between W and D is?
We need to know how much room including the corner we need?

My new house has very plain vanilla-colored genuine Corian countertops that are in excellent shape--except they're boring.

Since Corian sheets come in different thicknesses, couldn't an installer just bond a thin new layer onto my current countertops and clean up the edges around the sink and the bullnose with a router?

Why install all new countertops? They are structurally fine, I just want a different color.
