Sure. Many people donate gently used and ragged-out furniture to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Purple Heart and various other charitable organizations. The used stuff can be recovered very inexpensively by using furniture or slip covers available at most Wal-Marts, JC Penney, Sears, and other larger department stores. You can also try thrift shops or furniture rental companies that have some used or new furniture for sale at a clearance price. If you want a new set, look around at small furniture businesses like the Room Store, Ikea, or wherever furniture stores are having big clearances or going-out-of-business sales. You can sometimes find items like this at public auctions, as well. We got a full size real leather couch, love seat, oversized chair, two end tables and a coffee table at an going-out-of-business furniture auction for about $900.00. That's not a bad price for leather plus all the other things we bid on. We found our most recent set of living room furniture at a Lazy Boy Gallery sale. You can also try looking in your local area Greensheet (usually can be found at most convenience stores) for these kinds of items -- used or new. I'm sure you'll find something you like in your price range...it just takes a little research and effort or sometimes you get lucky and hear about these sales by word-of-mouth. Good Luck! :)

WalMart, Value City Furniture, Big Lots... for the cheap places.
Try a second hand store, if you're not super-picky and just want to grab something to hold you over until you can afford better.
Target also has some great deals, sometimes. If you have a Sams Club membership, they have some awesome furniture.

There are 4 excellent sources for you ...
1. Salvation Army Resale Shop
2. St Vincent DePaul Resale Shops
3. Craigslist.com for your city/area
4. Estate Sales listed in newspapers
All these places have inexpensive "nice" stuff that is available in most areas.

J.C. Penny's had some last year but it's really easy to do yourself, just take a bed sheet for instance, lay across the sofa, tuck in, usually you will need like two twins for front, one for back, start pinning, following the tuck lines, and sew, if you feel adventuresome you can take sofa apart use as a pattern and do the upholstering. Otherwise jcp.

You can buy these things from stores that offer credit for 2 years. Like for example in Dallas, we have stores like Roomstogo and Roomstore who offer no interest no payment for 4 years. Their prices are also very reasonable.
