Have you looked in the paper for adds from people who are selling furniture? That's what I would do first. Sometimes you can find well built and taken care of furniture that people are selling only because they bought a different style.
You can alway find "cheap" furniture. Go to any Wal-Mart or K-Mart. It will probably last you a week or two.
Scout around, do some rummaging. A lot of people sell furniture at rummage sales because they're moving and take it with. Estate Sales are also good places to look. Better be there early.
