I have a home that was built nearly 100 years ago. There are at least 7 or 8 layers of paint over the wood molding and trim around the doors and such. I'd like to take off the paint to let the natural wood beauty shine, but I don't want to scrape it because that might damage the wood underneath. What is the best chemical to use or the best way to do this? Thanks!

We have hardwood floors. The top step is approximately 3' long by 1' wide. It recently split and has a 2' long crack running lengthwise. Are there any quick fixes for this or will the board need to be replaced? Our floors are really old and it may be difficult to match the wood. If we could fix this before it gets worse (the entire board splitting and becoming a hazard), that would be great! Any ideas are appreciated.

We are building a new house. The cabinets are a honey spice color and the countertops are a dark spotty granite. I have no idea what color to make the floor, either. The kitchen is very big so dark colors can be an option.

Do normally go to paint specialty stores such as Sherwin Williams? Or do you normally buy it at home improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot? Or do you buy it at department stores like Kmart or Walmart?

I tried wood cleaner and lysol but i cant get the smell out. I would like to paint the wood to match the room, would that help with the smell? cover it up? the wood doesnt looklike its sealed or has varnish..but it could just be so old that it has worn off..any help with the smell? and/or how to paint the wood?

I'm looking at buying an older home (1700 sq ft) that has a small, but old kitchen. The file has been recently tiled, but the cabinates, sink, and countertops would need to be replaced...more so the sink and countertops. What would it cost to replace all or sink and countertops and then refinish cabinates?

I live in a makeshift room with bookshelves and boxsprings for walls. I want a little more privacy, so I'm looking for something I can hang from the ceiling and around the structure as a soundproof dividing wall. the cheaper the better, any ideas at all appreciated.

I have white cabinets and black appliances with a black and white checkerboard floor. I want to paint the walls, but I can't decide what color or how bold I want it.

Any ideas.

because I'm moving across the country with my family and am staying at my aunt's house until we find a place. we can only take necessities like clothes, etc. and I'll be in a little tiny about 4x8 ft. bedroom, with just a bed in it for a few months. (not literally inside the bedroom for a few months.) so how can I sort of make it my own room and feel like home without bringing useless crap?

I have a black light in my room and thought it would look cool if I painted my ceiling white so it would glow in the dark. Also, I did some research on 'black lights' and it said something about Phosphors in todays paint.

I have a brown carpet with an area rug that is beige and has subtle colors like rust, red, green, and a dusty greyish purple. They are very muted colors. I have a tan/beige brown couch that is huge! and the throw pillows are the burnt orange color and a large scale toile with colors from the rug on an ivory background. I have dark brown furniture. I live in an apartment and the walls are white. I need to buy curtaind for the large window that has no furniture on that wall to anchor it. So I am wondering if I buy a striped curtain or solid and what color? I need to keep the room from looking like a cave. I was thinking a brownish honey strip or an ivory and brown stripe. But will the ivory get lost against the white walls?
