I'd like to make a few small topiaries or small decorative items to sit on my headboard...Any ideas? Sites with suggestions?

Thanks!

"Artificial?" You can make real topiaries with herbs like rosemary or lemon verbena, but they do tend to shed on the bed.

OK, so take some styrofoam and cut it to fit a flowerpot (use a plastic flowerpot if your region is prone to earthquakes). Stick a chopstick in it, then stick another styrofoam ball on top of the chopstick. Spraypaint the styrofoam and chopstick green (or other desired colors -- it'll be a base). Put it back in the pot, and glue spanish moss or velvet to the top of the styrofoam "dirt." Wind a fake vine (ivy, grape, whatever) up the chopstick and wind it decoratively around the top ball. Fill in the other spaces with pretty flowers and leaves in your favorite colors. Instead of flowers, you could use tiny orange balls, or apples. Make sure they are glued well onto the styrofoam.

And that's it, really.

You could also forget the fake flowers, and glue scraps of pretty fabric or Japanese paper onto the flowerpot, chopstick and styrofoam ball to get a very clean, sweet look. Or stick in pins threaded with glittery beads and sequins for something shiny and modern.

Have fun with it.

First, you want to pick up a clay pot, styrofoam balls, floral bushes, and spanish moss and a garden stake or chopstick.

Then, paint your clay pot to coordinate with the room. Hot glue one styrofoam ball in the clay pot. Stick the stake in the middle of the ball. Attach the other ball to the other end. Then, hotglue spanish moss all over the top and bottom ball. Then on the top ball attach the floral heads all over to cover the ball. (with glue gun again.) For extra class, attach a pretty wire ribbon around the stake and tie in bow.

For a tree like topiary, start with a big ball and pot as base. Then put a smaller ball next, then a smaller one. Then cover with spanish moss and decorate with florals.

You could decorate with greenery instead of florals. It is completely your call. Good luck!

get some flower containers you like, and some styrofoam balls, or cones, or whatever shape you want it to be. and some dowel rod to make the trunk of the tree. put mixed plaster in the flower container and stand the stick in it. hold it till it sets, then stick the foam shape on top of the stick. you can cover the plaster in the pot and the foam shape with green florist moss, its dry and comes in bags. or with some spanish moss which also can be purchased wherever floral design products are sold, then you can augment with silk floral leaves and berries or even flowers, keep them small so the topiary shape is not lost. tie a bow around the stem if you like. enjoy.
