... install carpet by ourselves over tile floor?
Should I rather buy an area rug?
This is for our 9 month old daughter's nursery.
I had decided on the carpet because she loves to chew on anything, and I bet she'd chew on the rug too!
So I'd like to know how hard could it be for us to install carpet by ourselves? (the kind of carpet that comes in sections)
Thanks very much!

the upper half is painted, the bottom is tiled. The floor is ceramic tiles in a blueberry-charcoal color. The room is small and light is good through a medium window. What colors would work with the faded pink color of the tub, etc? I love rich color.

Is there a right way to do this? Should you install cabinets over the new tile, or tile the floor after the cabinets are installed?

Please answer because I'm thinking about purchasing at least one of these this week. I have green walls and hardwood floors and I'm going to put a 9x12 rug down.

So tell me would it work or is it a no no?

My husband I are having this debate right now. How it be cheaper in the long run to put in hardwood floors (Which I have read have a 25 year warranty on them.) or is it cheaper to put in carpet, but replace the carpet every 3 to 5 years, or even to lift up the carpet to get out all the dirt collected underneath the carpet and padding? Thanks!!

I just moved into this house a little over a year ago. This is the way they decorated the kitchen. The wallpaper has got to go! The backsplash is also wallpaper.
The kitchen is highly visible as you can see from the pics. There is a long hall and you have to walk by the kitchen to get to the living room. Thats where I took the picture from. I like the green that is in the dining room and in the living room. The hallway is beige. They chose the wallpaper to match these colors but I don't like wallpaper. I need some ideas on what to do with the kitchen so that it will still blend since these rooms are all together. I love earth tones. Any ideas?

I saw on a home improvement program they white washed a fireplace to get an "old brick" look. Has anyone seen that episode or have you done it.

I just got a dresser and chest of drawers. I need several rolls of contact shelf paper, around 18' x 50'. Where is a good place to get it at wholesale price? I checked online, but I can't find anything less than $65 plus shipping. Is that about how much it costs? What do other people do for dresser drawers, etc? Thanks.

My bedroom's theme is a bit Middle Eastern, but the pictures I've been choosing for it don't have anything to do with the room's decor so I really don't mind the theme much. I also would really like a cool, original way in which to arrange them in my walls. I'm on a tight budget so I can't spend much.

Just to survey random people, how many of you (if you had the money) would hire a budget oriented designer to decorate your home? She would be using "recycled materials" from thrift stores like the Salvation Army, and the Goodwill. The goal would be to use the budget to re-do the home in a thrifty yet stylish theme. Just wondering... Thanks for looking. :*

i can't get new furniture, so i have to work with what i have. army green chair and a half and ottoman, dark purple sofa, and purple side chair. my tv armoire and console table is dark, almost a mohagany and i plan on painting the walls a taupey color. drapes are a goldish-tan chenille fabric.

any ideas of how to use these pieces to create a cape cod/hamptons look? i'm not sure i can afford slipcovers, but i do want to purchase a new rug.

I desperately need a sofa....or loveseat....or even a chair.

I am a single, disabled Mom who has not been able to work for three years. I am also still caught up in the whole appeals process for SSI.

I have lupus and have had to have my knees replaced. After three years, my resources are depleted. Please don't think I'm a deadbeat lookin' to the world to give me freebies. When I was able, I worked. I wish I still could.
