I live in downstairs in a house built in the 1920's. As a result, there is little or no closet space either upstairs or downstairs.

There are plenty of windows and wood flooring. This makes it both wonderful ( I love the sunlight because it brightens up the place and the view is terrific) and not so wonderful( the sun makes it hot at times). I live in the South and that makes it difficult at times to put things near windows because of the heat.

Have you got any ideas ?

I have this unsightly "electrical box" flush with the wall (you know the one where all your power stems from throughout the house) in a newly remodeled laundry room. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I could disguise it to coordinate with my new room, but still have access to it if and when needed.

I'll be using it mostly to make clothing and some drapes and other home decor. I've been sewing for over 20 years so I'm fairly experienced. I've used both White and Singer machines and don't care for either. I'm thinking of going with a computerized machine but have no experience with them. I'd like to stay under $300 if possible. Thanks!

I am building a new house for sale and am installing cornice to the lounge/dining room and normal coving in all the bedrooms. However, I am undecided as to whether to intstall coving to the hall, landing and kitchen? What is the fashion at the moment and what do you think most buyers prefer?

I have two 16X20 pictures of my kids when they were 15 mos. old (They are now 13 and 15) that I would like to reframe and hang in my living room. My living room is decorated in muted reds and golds. The picture of my daughter is a light blue background and she is wearing a white romper with baby pink and blue flowers. My son's picture is also a light blue background. He is wearing a white sweater with primary red and blue shapes on it. How can I mat these pictures in such a way that they would fit into my living room. I am very proud of these pictures and NOT hanging them in my living room is not an option. Thanks in advance for your help.

I must admit that I am always captivated by the modernity and simplicity of a well-designed minimalist space. In fact, I believe that the emergence of minimalism reflects a certain mindset of those who adhere to the minimalist religion: a sense of the “less is more” theory, and the reliance on the imagination for perceived beauty (as in modern art, which I also adore). So why is it that when I am downtown with friends, and I point into a shop window saying “That’s interesting,” they’ll reply with, “No, it’s boring.” Not only that, but then they’ll point to some ornate, carved thing, made of only the finest mahogany and say, “That’s beautiful!” (I, of course, will reply with, “No, it’s excessive, and probably ugly too.”) So, what I want to know is, Why is there all this hatred and prejudice against minimalism in today’s modern society?

Ever seen a bar or table with bottlecaps or something else sealed in with some kind of clear liquid that hardened? It looks like a glass top but it's not. What is that liquid and where can I buy it?
