Hi there

Most places now sell flooring specially designed for kitchen and bath room areas....even cheaper places like B&Q are getting into that market. Have a look round and try the web, you may find it a cheaper option than buying an additional sealer seperate.

I do not think that is a good idea. The sealer will crack with expansion and contraction and allow water and oil to get between the seams over time. Kitchens need to be as sanitary as possible,so that would not be good.
If you are looking for a way to have the floor LOOK like wood, why not use a solid vinyl covering that looks like T&G or some other wood look.
If you decide to go the vinyl route, and the cabinets are already in place, lift them off the floor a little and put wedges under them so the vinyl can be slid under the cabinets, When you let them down, they wil hold the edges of the vinyl down and help form a gasket or seal to keep dirt and spilled liquids from getting under them. If it's a new kitchen, lay the vinyl throughout the whole room.

Because of the amount of water and other liquids in the kitchen it is a very wise idea to seal the wood.

It would be a good idea to seal it, also remember, if it is a real solid wood floor, it needs to be raised from the actualy ground so that it can breath. As it is really wood it will expeand and shrink and so it need to be batoned up!
