Anything your heart desires. Maybe a neutral color like a beige or ecru to make the room seem bigger.

Just finished a major redecorating project throughout the house and was finally convinced by my interior decorator to go with the neutral colors. Red is my favorite color and is the main accent color throughout.
The wall colors are from the Sherwin Williams color chart: Kilim Beige is the most neutral of all, but you'll want to take a sample and paint some one foot squares (approx.) on your wall to see how the light affects it. You can vary the paint color with degrees of richness within the same color. For example, I used Kilim Beige 150% as a tone-on-tone for the trimwork (door casings, floor casings, etc.) Be sure you use trim paint for the trimwork and not regular wall paint.
You might get a little creative with Ralph Lauren's Crabapple (which Sherwin Williams can color match and mix for you at a little less cost if you bring them a sample - available at Home Depot). Crabapple is a beige with a gentle green hue. That could be beautiful with your dark red carpet and wouldn't necessarily look Christmas-y due to the subtleness of the green.
I recommend you get some color swatches from Sherwin Williams and bring them home; then, after you have made your top three selections, go back to the store and get some color match sample paint to see what it would look like on your wall. You can always primer over the colors so they won't bleed through your final selection.
Choosing paint for your home can be quite challenging! However, if you go for the neutrals, you have left yourself more options with your accent and carpet colors.
Enjoy!

I had a deep red carpet and I had wallpaper. People sometimes say that it's too difficult to remove once it's up, but I got a beautiful pattern that believe it or not it was up for almost 20 years and showed no signs of wear. When I finally decided to take it down, I did it myself with a rented steamer, took me a day. Well worth the investment and for you, just another idea.

Well, good morning
Being an interior designer we like to tough and see our items. From the deeper red colour that you have indication above sounds like reddish brown if this is the case I like to see green not on the lemon green but the blue green. Using the principals of FENG SHUI I like to implement my five elements. Water, Earth, Fire, Metal and Wood. Red is definitely your fire, blue is earth and green part of wood. Also always keep in mind to bring your outside in. What I'm saying people love nature bring it in. Also I suggest to my client to take a picture of your room and from there pick a colour from your five elements. Listen enjoy and have fun with your colours.

Go to www.dulux.co.uk and click on the red that looks most like your carpet colour. The website will then give you the paint options that go the best.
It really works - the site helped me design my entire house and it looks great!

A pale cream would accentuate the colour but a pale grey might tone it down a bit. A lot depends on your furniture and whether that is also red or another colour in which case you might want to tone in lightly with that colour.

A LIGHT NEUTRAL TAN WOULD BE GREAT.
WE HAVE A NEW HOME AND MOST OF IT IS PAINTED SHERWIN-WILLIAMS LATTE. I LOVE IT! IT GOES WITH ANYTHING, REDS, BLUES, GREENS.
THEY HAVE A GREAT WEBSITE WHERE YOU CAN PICK A ROOM AND PAINT THE WALLS, IT IS VERY HELPFUL!
GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, & PICK WHAT YOU LIKE, YOU ARE THE ONE WHO HAS TO LOOK AT IT EVERYDAY! :)

I would use a cream color or tan, but if you want it to POP then go for mustard yellow.
