Depends a lot on your lifestyle. Granite does require sealing on a yearly basis, that's a matter of cleaning thoroughly, wiping the sealant product on, letting it dry, repeat next year. If that's too much maintenance, well anything will be too much for you. Granite can scratch, but you have to try to do it. Using a cutting board is smart no matter what material your countertop is. Think about it, granite is thousands of years old, formica was formulated in the lab last week. Which will last longer? Think about it.

I would stick with slab granite! I have a fabrication site and believe that granite that is one continuous piece (with few seams) are much easier for cleanup and maintenance. Also I would look at color as well. Absolute Black=a surface that is hard to keep looking clean. Something with a pattern or Multi color is way to go. Also there is a cleaner that they sell at Home Depot that is a cleaner and Sealer,it's called "Gel Gloss". If you run out of that and need an emergency shine you can use car wax such as "Turtle Wax". The carnuba in it not only shines but seals as well.

Absolutely not true! Granite is wonderful! I look new all the time. Just spray on some granite cleaner or Windex and wipe with paper towels.

I love my counters!!
