When i painted my celings I first applied a layer of Kilz. It is like a primer and it will take much less paint if you use this first. I applied it with a roller on a long extended handle. After my Kilz dried (about a day) I began rolling on the paint! Good luck!
P.S. Be sure to put down drop clothes on any carpet and furniture, and you also may want to take off your molding and trim that you don't want paint on.

When painting a ceiling it's best to do it in sections (depending on the size of said ceiling) over the course of a few days. Use a paint roller that has the extent able handle (some can extend to 9feet. They also have a roller that has "power" and can pump/push paint out through the roller. And remember to put down a tarp and wear old clothing before you paint. You'll still have to use your arms but with the right equipment you can sit a lot more. Best of luck.

If you have pain problems, you may have a better time getting up there with a ladder, rather than use a roller on an extension. Wear a hat and goggles, ceiling painting is messy! Also, if you have to stop to rest often, a flat or eggshell finish of paint may work better for you than a glossy paint...Flat textures won't show lines as much if you have to stop. Otherwise, it is a good idea to keep a 'wet edge', try to work off of edges that are wet, if the paint dries and you have to go over a line again, it will look a little funny.

Keep your eyes and mouth closed, paint tastes horrible, unless it is the berry colored paint. What I do is use a long handled roller, put the tray on the floor (the floor being covered with drop cloth, of course) and paint from there. Apply the paint from the roller going in one direction, then finish roll at 90 degrees to the way you went at first. Do the walls after doing the ceiling, and cut in with a brush at the edge of the ceiling. I wish you well on your home improvement adventure!

paint pads are light and easy to use and can also be dualed with an extending pole. if you suffer with pain it will be the weight that will effect you so stay away from bulky rollers. Also invest in some dulux paint witch turns from pink to white this will save you going over the same areas or missing spots. If you need a break to rest then put a plastic carrier bag over the paint pad this will save the emulsion from drying and you can then start again when you feel ready

Make sure you cover your flooring and use paint that's not going to give off a lot of fumes and use painting supplies that are easy to use and clean. If you don't get it all done in one day then just finish it when you can. Or you could pay some kids to help you out.
