I must admit that I am always captivated by the modernity and simplicity of a well-designed minimalist space. In fact, I believe that the emergence of minimalism reflects a certain mindset of those who adhere to the minimalist religion: a sense of the “less is more” theory, and the reliance on the imagination for perceived beauty (as in modern art, which I also adore). So why is it that when I am downtown with friends, and I point into a shop window saying “That’s interesting,” they’ll reply with, “No, it’s boring.” Not only that, but then they’ll point to some ornate, carved thing, made of only the finest mahogany and say, “That’s beautiful!” (I, of course, will reply with, “No, it’s excessive, and probably ugly too.”) So, what I want to know is, Why is there all this hatred and prejudice against minimalism in today’s modern society?

There are some people who consider that it can be beautiful. There are people who take the cold hard and bland view of the person above me. Nearly all minimalism falls into the white for interiors and black and silver for equipment now which is not helping it's cause.
There is also a company that seems to act as if they were the only people who can make anything look nice and yet even with their self promotion for so called originality they are now doing silver and black stuff.
I agree old things can look ugly today.
There are so many effects and colours that could be used today;
Warm grey and Transluscent
Blue Grey, Warm grey and Transluscent
Waem Grey and Lime Green.
Warm Grey and Orange
Silver Grey and Orange
And many more that can look nice as well as one or two different styles.
It does not have to look cold and harsh.
Try looking at the interiors of the 'Towering Inferno' for one of the earliest examples of modern minimalism and you will see it can look warm luxurious and inviting (Especially for 1974)
There is more i would like to put but people would skip over it.

I think some people feel uncomfortable with minimalism because its not cosy or comfortable in their view. It can feel cold, hard and bland. Maybe that's why? :)

It's a matter of personal taste, not "hatred and prejudice"...........and it's boring.
