I just moved into this house a little over a year ago. This is the way they decorated the kitchen. The wallpaper has got to go! The backsplash is also wallpaper.
The kitchen is highly visible as you can see from the pics. There is a long hall and you have to walk by the kitchen to get to the living room. Thats where I took the picture from. I like the green that is in the dining room and in the living room. The hallway is beige. They chose the wallpaper to match these colors but I don't like wallpaper. I need some ideas on what to do with the kitchen so that it will still blend since these rooms are all together. I love earth tones. Any ideas?

WOW - the good news is that no matter what color you choose for the walls - it HAS to be better than the wallpaper!! That is really really bad. I agree that a nice warm tone for the walls and I would tile the backsplash.

Man you aren't kidding! That wallpaper is hideous! I'd tear it down pronto and extend the green that is in the dining room into the kitchen. For the backsplash have you considered beadboard? like the wainscoting you currently have? I think that would look nice and tie the rooms together. To many design elements can make a space actually look smaller. By keeping the same color flow, and picking up the wainscoting from the dining room into the kitchen it would make the space not only appear larger but definitely more soothing. Right now it's a total headache. Good luck!

ps. you can get sheets of beadboard at a home-center like home depot for close to nothing. just some liquid nails (and maybe a couple of real nails) and it's super easy to cut, paint and install.

a great color for the kitchen walls would be a golden tan color(for refernce see BEHR 270F-4 "peanut butter"). that section of wall against which the chest is sitting needs to be painted the same green as the dining area, otherwise youve got too many colors meeting at that spot ( beige of the hallway; green of dining area, and tan of the kitchen). would look great if you could extend the wainscoting down the hallway.
If you'd like something a little bolder for the kitchen walls, a rich, coppery terra cotta would work fine. if possible the backsplash should be made of the same tile as the floor; but its probably not possible to find this exact tile . I'd use terra cotta tile for the backsplash (but not as dark and reddish as the color of the wallpaper currently there) with some accent tiles of copper--these copper accant tiles are available at HD.
are you really attached to that 3 drawer chest? I think you should either move it out or paint it a rich shade of brown. you could even redo the top in terra cotta ceramic tiles and use it as serving buffet on which you could place hot items.
At some point in the future you also might want to consider redoing the cabinets. they would look really great in a burnt sienna color. bronzy copper hardware and knobs would work well on the cabinetry.

PS: that might possibly be the loudest wallpaper ive ever seen!

The best advice i can give you is to strip all the wallpaper off. Then choose a nice earth tone for paint and paint your walls. If you want a backsplash look into tile and choose a nice light color like beige. All of this is easy to do it yourself! Or if your not the fixer up type then hire it out. Good Luck to you!
Also go to some local home improvement stores they can give you the know how and point you in the right direction!

I agree with you that the wallpaper needs to go. One suggestion is go off of the colors from your floor. In the kitchen you could do like a wainscoting effect with a color above a chair rail and color below. You could use the tan on the bottom and green on the top. That would look good. Another thing you could do is get a slightly darker tint of the same colors and do a faux finish to them. You could do a lot with that kitchen I hope you have fun and this is useful to you. Good Luck.

It might be nice if you did the walls like a nice taupe colour, but a light one. For the backsplash I would personally suggest copper...but I have no idea how much that costs.

That wallpaper is pretty loud, huh? LOL!! (I think you have the same fridge as me, BTW)

The wallpaper is awful! the green is nice though. I also like the floor and the cabinets. I think you can brighten the kitchen up with a light yellow or light tan color. Here's a few pics for ideas. Good Luck.

I'd do a harlequin diamond pattern in paint colors that blend with what you have already. The backsplash I would do in real tile to match the floor.

because you assert the kitchen is small, mild hues on the walls will create an phantasm of more desirable area. (a mild impartial beige is going with each and everything!) i imagine timber cabinets in an elementary layout and mild colored end ought to lend to about any adorning subject you go with to bypass with. For the countertops, i ought to bypass with a darker colour because I have discovered from journey the lighter countertops tutor stains a lot swifter!!

yeah that wall paper is pretty bad!

however, it looks like you have blues and browns/tans in your flooring. those colors look great together! i have y bedroom painted a light blue (inspired by pottery barn) and i couldn't love it more!

and my mom just painted her living room, ding, and kitchen light blue also! it looks amazing!

you can accent with tans, chocolates, creams, and whites (since your appliances and cabinets are white)

check out sherwin-williams website, you can pick a room of the house and paint it with their colors to get ideas.

my blue is called rain, it is wonderful!

good luck! how fun!
