I've read that bed skirts are out (yeah, like we all pay attention to that!). Regardless, I hate them anyway - they collect pet hair and dust, they make it a pain in the butt to change sheets and so on. So, I'm looking for creative ideas on what else to do. I have a coverlet that doesn't cover the box spring section, and that does look pretty bad! Pretty coverlet, nice decorative pillows and then seeing the metal mattress frame and the box springs. Help!

I moved into a 2 bed, livingroom, dining room and teeny kitchen apartment and I'm allowed to paint. It's a brownstone, so there is lots of antique door frames and trim Everywhere! All the trim must be Pure White Glossy according to my landlord. With all that white and also being a beginner at painting I thought of all the colors I have loved (Aqua/turquoise, avocado, chocolate, sage, deep reddish orange) but realized that most of those colors are already in either my rugs, pillows, art or furniture. After lots of hair pulling and indecisiveness I finally figured I'd stick to light neutrals.

But what white goes with Ultra Pure White? And doesn't just look dull or dingy against it? I want to get the whole apartment done in one paint job so I'd like to stick to one or just a few complimentary shades of white in all the rooms. I've considered Off-white? What do you think? If it helps, the floors are golden wood, and the wood on the furniture is sorta walnut (medium shades).

Our new house has a window in the shower. It looks like a regular window to me, but the window sill is painted white. There is a plastic surround that the previous owner just cut a hole in for the window. They have a curtain hanging over the window.

I hate that curtain, and I'm worried about the wood in the wall getting wet. How do I protect my wall, and keep the window? Please make the answers really simple...I've never done this type of thing before.

Also, do not suggest removing the window or replacing it with glass blocks. The house was just re-sided last summer, and the window dimensions aren't right for glass blocks.

We have 2 full baths in the 2nd floor and 3 bedrooms.

The guest bathroom in the hallway has a standard tub/shower combo which we use for kids.

The master bath has separate shower and tub areas. We never use the tub in the master bath. Its a deep plastic tub with an outside step. Both the tub and step take up a quarter of the bathroom space. We use the separate shower and are planning to get rid of the tub and enlarge the shower.

If we get rid of the deep tub in the master bath will our home's resale value go down?

I noticed that duvet covers are usually more expensive than a comforter. They are popular, so I was just wondering what the BIG difference is.

i'm possibly moving into a place with a pink bathroom. i'm not talking walls. i mean sink, tub and toilet are pink! that's not all...the ceramic floor is also pink. i can live with the tub. i can put a shower curtain in front of it, but i want to replace the toilet and sink as well as the floor. i'm also concerned that there may be a little issue behind the toilet as the floor seems a little lower back there. so, i may have to pull up some of the floor and replace it. what do you think it will cost? generally. i haven't ever done anything like this before and i wonder if it will be 500 bucks or 2500 bucks.
