I've never tried a stack-n-whack quilt myself, but they look interesting. You need to use fabrics with a fairly large print. There are small hinged mirrors - you set them up on the fabric and by looking in the mirror, you can see what the block will look like. There's a free pattern for a gorgeous quilt called Dragonfly Dreams on the Michael Miller Fabrics website. There are also several books available by Bethany Reynolds, the creator of the method. Her website has a lot of information.
