Our new house has a window in the shower. It looks like a regular window to me, but the window sill is painted white. There is a plastic surround that the previous owner just cut a hole in for the window. They have a curtain hanging over the window.

I hate that curtain, and I'm worried about the wood in the wall getting wet. How do I protect my wall, and keep the window? Please make the answers really simple...I've never done this type of thing before.

Also, do not suggest removing the window or replacing it with glass blocks. The house was just re-sided last summer, and the window dimensions aren't right for glass blocks.

You can frame the window sides, from the edge of the window sill. See if your local store has vinyl strips wide and easy to cut (specially at the corners at 45 degree angles). You can also use moulding made of plastic or any other synthetic material to frame your window. Just make sure you glue them very well. The curtain is the least of your problem as it can easily be replaced
or even improved to a much better one.

Since your sill is just painted and if there is a need, you can repaint the sill and vinyl frame to the color you like.

If needed also frame the outside for extra protection.

This is the easiest way I can think of.

Lowes and HD have obscure film that can be applied to the glass. By the way, your glass should be tempered in a shower. As far sa the sill goes, how about a piece of marble sill. Once again Lowes and HD. Install it on a slight pitch so the water runs off into the shower. Seal well with siliconized latex if you need any painting on sides. Regular silicone won`t take paint!

get frosted glass/frost/etch the glass...but that won;t change the wood around the window-is it an actual shower stall or a claw foot with a shower head? Treat the wall with waterproof poly urethane? Go to Home Depot and tell them-they can help you do anything.

Make sure the area is sealed really well. Either by a clear caulking if there is a gap or use some sort of primer or bathroom paint to seal the area. You will probably be fine without doing that

You could try putting a sealer on the wood. For example, Tompson's Water Sealer. Check with your local Home Improvement Store

You could try getting a shower curtain and trim to fit. That should hold back most of the water.

You can try to buy a shower curtain that you like and cut/trim it to fit into the window.

After you get the window sealed with silicone caulk, you can use spray on glass etching "stuff" to make your window opaque. You can even use stencils or tape to "etch" a pattern.
