i'm possibly moving into a place with a pink bathroom. i'm not talking walls. i mean sink, tub and toilet are pink! that's not all...the ceramic floor is also pink. i can live with the tub. i can put a shower curtain in front of it, but i want to replace the toilet and sink as well as the floor. i'm also concerned that there may be a little issue behind the toilet as the floor seems a little lower back there. so, i may have to pull up some of the floor and replace it. what do you think it will cost? generally. i haven't ever done anything like this before and i wonder if it will be 500 bucks or 2500 bucks.

I would be doing the work myself.

As mentioned in one of the previous answers, it really depends on what all you choose to go with (in terms of the type of vanity, toilet etc). Generally speaking however, you could estimate the cost by deciding on what materials you would like to have - which you could do on-line, then figure in cost of labor (If you choose to hire a contractor). In TX you could expect to hire a contractor for 35 dollars an hour on the low end and 75 to 80 an hour on the high end - It really depends on what all you choose to do. The most cost efficient way (in my opinion) is to do as much work as you can by yourself. Toilets for example are relatively easy to replace (takes about an hour), while re-doing the floor and installing a vanity are a little more time consuming (depending on the sq footage) and plumbing work that must be done. All in all, I would guess a 50 sq foot bathroom would cost around 1500 for materials (vanity, new stone tile, sink and toilet). Labor would definitely be the deciding factor in this type of renovation. Expect to pay around 6 bucks per sq foot for tile installation, 70 bucks for a toilet installation and a minimum of 200 for a new vanity (depending on size and type of sink). If you are comfortable with this type of work - check out diy.com - it offers a ton of info for do it yourself(ers). Good luck

well its a big job its not uncommon to have a $10,000 remodel in the bathroom, you would be doing this all yourself or getting a professional to do it for you. if you get the pro then one its done right, but it will cost you a mint. really it all depends of your style for the replacements. I know you can get inexpensive ceramic tile for your floor(bewteen .69 and .99 cents sq/ft) for 12x12. Looking at new toilets and sinks and taps it can cost lots. I would do the job myself really. but know full well bad things pop up and this job will take time. when redoing the bathroom its a good idea to gut the room and start fresh. that way you know all what is going on behind the walls and on the floor. ya it cost more but well worth it it the long run. BTW if you go with a pro, going out fo the paper can be risky, watch he doesnt want to start the job the next day. Pro's are busy no matter what the season is. remember to get a permit if a pro is doing the job. this will protect you from any poor workmanship. but really shop around, and get referances for the pros of your choosing and go look at the work they have completed. I can say Mr. Joe is really great, but if you dont like his work at my place then you not like it at your place. Keep your eyes and ears open...good luck

Micci73,
I just had both of my bathrooms redone. I had both sinks, vanities, medicine cabinets, toilets, floors and shower inserts replaced. I'm sorry to tell you this, but your looking at about 4 to 5 thousand dollars for one bathroom, I checked around and everyone I talked to said I got a good price for all they did.
There's also a lot of unmentioned items such as new towel racks, toilet paper holder, curtain rod, new floor trim and repainting, all this I did
myself.

The cost will, of course depend on the facilities you get; i.e. you can get a vanity for $100. or for $300; a sink for $100 or for $500, etc. Unless you do it yourself, I would look on the high end of $3000 not including replacing the tub

I'm a contractor, and a rule of thumb,is a basic bathroom gut with new tub and tile generally run between $5000.00 and $7000.00 and thats pretty basic

I'm having a similar situation with my bathroom. Had a contractor look at it and he quoted me $6,000.00, but this guy quoted me on a couple other jobs in the house and his quotes are 15% to 25% higher than anyone else's. For the work you're talking about be prepared to pay at least $1,000.00 if you do it yourself and at least $3,000.00 if you have a contractor do it.
