Cleaning & Laundry - August 2007

[Selected]: All categories Home & Garden Cleaning & Laundry

I recently bought a new bathroom suite and had it installed, it's a white bath with shower screen. When it hasnt been cleaned for a while a film of reddish pink residue forms around the sides and in the plastic skirt at the bottom of the glass screen door. I initially thought it could be the sealant reacting with something but it even occurs on the tile grout where there is no silicone sealant. It comes off easily and is a good indicator that things need cleaned, but it's annoying as inevitably there's some you cant get at but can still see, eg around the base of taps. Anyone else notice this?

While collecting laundry in my sons room tonight i found a sheet shoved under his desk, apparently at some point he had a bloody nose at night and didn't want to tell me (not wanting to goto the doctor i guess) so his sheets are pretty messed, both from the bloody nose and from being under his desk. i usually use oxi clean to treat spots but since there pretty messed could i leave them soaking over night? the package says 1-6 hours, but will any harm come from leaving them longer?

Do you feel it was a good purchase? If you would, rate it from 1 to 10. I have around 1500 sq. ft. of space down stairs that we are about to tile and I want to be really sure that I make a good decision on the type of floor washer I buy. Thanks

I'm trying to figure out why my daughter's white shirts always end up being permanently stained yellow?? She hasn't spilled anything yellow on herself in particular? I wash my whites in bleach, I try to pre-soak, pre-stain...nothing I do works. Is it something else? Do they purposely make toddler clothes this way so you have to buy more? None of my own clothing or my fiance's clothing is stained this way so I know it's not my washer? Any ideas?

They smell so bad. It's gross. We have put baking soda in them to stop the smell but it didn't work. We tried spraying them and airing them out. It's disgusting. Please help!

I have never used fabric softener and am looking for one. Something that smells really nice and makes my clothes smell good! Which is the best one? Does it have to be pricey to be good? Will it also help with static?

I am looking for a new detergent that will keep my clothes smelling nice. Any suggestions? I currently use Gain Apple Tango Mango; however, it smells great in the bottle, but I can't smell it on my clothes at all. Tide is really overpriced also, according to magazines and consumer's digest. I could probably find a comparable brand for a little less. Any ideas on great smelling ones?

We recently had hardwood floors installed (Bruce prefinished) last November. I purchased Orange Glo and used it maybe once every 2 months. It left our floors looking very dirty like there was this film of dirt on our floors. We just pd $500 to get them buffed and they look awesome. We're looking for something that is safe for our floors to use on a regular basis, maybe every 2 wks. I've heard water and vinegar? How much vinegar to water should I use? I've also heard that you d/n want to use any type of water based product on your wood floors. Any suggestions?

How to you clean the smooth glass top stove?

Sometimes after I remove a pot or pan from the heating element (circle), there is like burnt on material on the glass. I do not want to take a knife or something sharp to remove it.
I do wax the whole top once a week, but yet still rough spots around heating element.

I have let it soak with glass cleaner and scrubbed, but there is still little bumps on the glass.

Any suggestions?
