I'm assuming your waste water drains into a tank - hence you don't want to use chemicals? You can use plain white vinegar - if you soak disposable kitchen towel in the vinegar and place the towel over the deposits and leave for a night you can then throw away the towels and rub the remaining deposit with a rough cloth also soaked in vinegar. You will remove the deposits with a little bit of rubbing.

While I'm not sure what a "water closet" is... the most tried and true solution is vinegar. Might take more than one application though. Apply "non-diluted", let sit for a bit, then wipe off (some good old-fashioned elbow grease might be needed).

Hope this helps.

Good advice from straightdowntheline, if deposits remain you can work on them with a pumice stone (like you'd use on hard skin), the ceramic is harder than the stone, so it will do no harm and will remove waterscale easily.
