Most wood floors can be kept clean by first sweeping or vacuuming with a floor nozzle to remove most of the surface dust and dirt, then damp mopping with clear water (dip a sponge in clear water, squeezing it out so that the mop is barely damp, almost dry). Use very little water and rinse your mop thoroughly after each use since excess water can dissolve protective coatings, alter the color of the wood and raise the grain to roughen the surface.
If your floors are not dirty enough to need mopping every week, then you should not do it, as it will wear the floors faster, not to mention waste your time. Simply sweeping is often all they need.
If need to restore the shine to your wood floor after you get it clean, try damp mopping it with 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons furniture polish in a gallon of warm water. Vinegar is also useful for removing any soap residue or build-up, but should not be necessary every week.=)

We recently had hardwood floors installed (Bruce prefinished) last November. I purchased Orange Glo and used it maybe once every 2 months. It left our floors looking very dirty like there was this film of dirt on our floors. We just pd $500 to get them buffed and they look awesome. We're...

My flooring people suggested water and vinegar. (1) I found it didn't work. (2) My house smelled like the bottom of a pickle barrel.
A handyman who takes care of things around my home introduced me to a product called, "Clean Shine." It comes in a white plastic spray bottle and is available in our local supermarket. It can be used for daily cleaning or to get a special new floor glow. I never get excited about cleaning products this one get a 10 as far as I'm concerned. (It also works well on my new-fangled acrylic floors.)

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/yCYTz
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

This is great question that i hear all the time. Please do not use water on your wood, wood and water do not mix. In order to maintain the warranty on your Bruce floor, you need to clean your floor with a produce called Bruce Duraluster. you can find it at sears hardware, Lowe's, home depot, or any local flooring retailer. this product was specifically designed by Bruce with their per finished floors in mind. you can clean your floors with this product 1 or 2 per month. also, never use the Swifter dry pads on your floor. then contain a static charge to collect dust, however this will react with the aluminum oxide in your finish to permanently dull your floor. if down the road your floor needs some help to bring back the finish, then use Bruce's Fresh Finish.
Good Luck!

I dint think that using vinegar is a good ideal.I found it best to use just plain cold water,is u insist on using something try not to use anything with a strong smell to it as this is the reason your floors look dirty and sticky after washing them.try a little dish washing liquid
