I am looking for a new detergent that will keep my clothes smelling nice. Any suggestions? I currently use Gain Apple Tango Mango; however, it smells great in the bottle, but I can't smell it on my clothes at all. Tide is really overpriced also, according to magazines and consumer's digest. I could probably find a comparable brand for a little less. Any ideas on great smelling ones?

I LOVE Purex with Renuzit! It's at LEAST 1/2 the price of tide, and does a great job.....plus it's great for getting out smaells, like if you forget a load of laundry in the washer over noight, and it gets a little "mildewy"? GONE with this stuff! It doesn't smell Fruty, which I'm assuming apple tango mango does, but it smaells clean and fresh....even after the clothes sit folded a while!
GOOD LUCK!!

I personally don't think the detergent smell stays in clothes at all. ....UNLESS you hang them dry. It seems when I've experimented with no fabric softener but a great-smelling detergent and dried in a dryer, they come out smelling like nothing. And I'm thinking you need to match your detergent with same brand fabric softener whenever possible.

Anyway, around here TIDE has always been touted as being the best smelling. I'm on a huge box right now & it smells great, yeah in the box, but really, the fragrance doesn't last very long in the clothes. It's stronger than the cheaper stuff tho. I've used Purex, Sun, Arrow, Surf, etc., & get no smell on the clothing PLUS, with children, they just don't seem to get the dirt out as well as Tide, Cheer or Gain. My Brother, NO EXPERT< thinks ARM & Hammer smells great, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

If you want to be green and still have fresh clothes and a good product, Melaluca is the best. you have to buy it from a host. It reports no phosphates, etc. I like All Clear. It works well and is not hard on children's skin. Also, remember, you don't need to use near as much as is recommended! that will save you money and trips to the store. As for scent. Try scented dryer sheets.

I love great smelling clothes and I was told to use Purex Free and Clear. This leaves your clothes extremely clean and has no odor, and is very inexpensive. I was told that you should never use fabric softener sheets, but to use the liquid fabric softener! The Purex Free and Clear allows the clothes to get clean and then the liquid fabric softener to go to work!

I like the regular Gain, they used to have one that was called Whitewater Fresh that smelled fantastic, but I can't find it anywhere now :( so I stick with the original, but I find my clothes smell the best when I use liquid fabric softener (I love Snuggle blue sparkle) then let them air dry.

I love the Method laundry soap (at Target). If I let the clothes air dry, the scent is even stronger than if I use the dryer.

I use Tide liquid & love it as a pre spot treatment too. Overpriced? Not in my opinion.

Just make sure to use a liquid. Powdered soap can cause problems if it doesnt disolve correctly.
