I am trying to make my room in the house more unique. I've already cut out celebrity pictures from magazines and newspapers and pasted them on the walls. Any other suggestions?

When inspecting a home, is a home inspector required to turn on the furance or boiler to confirm that it is in working condition? Are they required to test for Carbon Monoxide exhaust during the inspection?

We haad a heavy fog last night and this morning as i returned to my home after fog lifted, I noticed that the entire yard was covered with tiny webs in the grass. We don't have a manicured lawn, it hasn't been cut recently but this is in shade so mostly the grass is short and spotty in places. These little webs are across entire lawn almost like little tufts of white cotton candy, or the fluff from cottonwood trees, but there are none around here. But they have tiny strands in patterns like webs, and each web is separate. I'm pretty observant of nature, and i have never seen this. Possibly just not visible until fog put tiny water mist on it and dawn glistend it up. Any Ideas?

I am from Mexico and can't get used to having 40w light bulbs at home. I feel so depressed by coming to my flat and having almost no light at all. So I have been looking to get brighter lights and came up with the fact that regular light bulbs are going extinct. Can someone explain to me why this is, besides environmental factors. What are the kinds of light bulbs there are out there, and which is the brightest one I can find.

Thanks

I just installed the unit in my basement because there is no ventilation at all.

The duct leads outside my house.

I want to check the air movement in my 10x10 basement space.

What is the best way to do this?

My husband and I planted tomato plants in the spring and we had a good harvest. What do I do now that the plants are rotting. Should I uproot them, cut them back or just leave them? I had them in those stand up cages but I've removed them. I'm not sure what I should do with the plants now. Will they help the soil if I leave them to rot? Would they seed for next season or would I have to replant with new?

I suspect that hot water can flow ,through the valve, ;in extreme cases of pressure differences; , when I set it for cold water only. My gas water heating bill magically jumped-up by 15% by simply up-dating to single lever faucets! Has anyone else experienced this?

Last year,we rented our old house to a "lady" who had 10 dogs inside the house. After a year,we finally got the chance to visit our own house and discover the grave damages inside. The wooden floor is completely soaked with pee and dog hair(sry for the description bu there is no other way to describe the condition inside the house). We now want to find a way to clean it ourselves without dismantling it.thx in advance and sorry if there are spelling mistakes.(i'm greek:):)

I do not have a green thumb, but would like to spruce up my porch with flower pots. Can I use artificial flowers? ie: artificial mums or fall type flowers? If so, is there any type of spray that I should use that will hold their color & quality through the elements?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could shed some light on this.

I had to do a building inspection at a hostel for work today in Ealing, London and they were having a major problem with ladybirds.

On opening one window fully, at least a hundred ladybirds were nesled in the seam between window and frame.

This wasn't the first room to be affected. They had been having problems with ladybirds coming through the open windows and actually inflicting bites on residents!

The ladybirds themselves did not look like the classic ones I remember when I was a kid - some were black with red spots, some were red with large black/yellow spots, some were red with lots of tiny black spots.

I haven't experienced this ladybird invasion in SE London/Kent where I live but apparently colleagues in Croydon and other London areas have.

Can any one shed any light on this 'invasion' and why it is happening this time of year? It seems so unusual!

Many thanks.

recently purchased a house 4 weeks ago and 1 of the things we asked the vendors to do before we completed was to have the central heating and boiler checked and guareented because the boiler was quite old..no problems they did that and there friend a corgi registered engineer passed it off so that was that day of exchange we went to the property all excited when we tried to put the central heating on nothing so we went into the cupboard tried everything still no heating so on inspection of the boiler it did not look like a service had been done on it so we decided to get our own independent engineer to look at it and oh my god he condemned the system to be unsafe and leaking carbon monoxide. so if me and my children had moved into this property we were basically at great risk. We have now got our solicitor involved but he is saying we have no case cuz we have no hard evidence but we have 2 contradicting reports!! any advice would be great

I am trying to work on a light switch in my new house. After turning the power off to the room in question (from the circuit breaker) and unscrewing the plate off the switch, the pen still lights up (faintly) when I touch it to the wires inside the switch. Is this normal?

In addition, get this: I turn the power back on at the breaker, and just for yaks, I touch the pen to the outside screws (the ones that hold the cover plate) and the pen still lights up! There should not be any voltage there, should it?! I mean, I can touch those outside screws and nothing happens!
