Are there any methods or techniques for smoothing wood when carving without using sandpaper?

Using certain tools or techniques or something?

Also, what did people do before sandpaper or if they couldn't get it?

The real reason I ask is because i am scultping in a wax material that carves just like hard wood and you have to sand it to smooth it.. but the material is expensive and I don't want to waste it because it gets imbedded in the sandpaper.

I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to sand it smooth without wasting the material.

Also.. it fills the sandpaper so quickly you go through a ton of sandpaper too..

If i plant a radish seed in the soil, and it receives no sunlight, will it actually grow. I will have to measure it after 3 weeks.

So, what do you think the height would most likely be. I think it would be less than 5 inches.

Do you have an idea how much a plant would grow in the dark (no sunlight) after 3 weeks? You can give information about plants in general or about radish plants.

Thank you!

The case is that: i am entering a toilet paper company and i am sappose to make a new and improved toilet paper. Not really, but i think that you guys could add oppinions. It is more absorbant, extreamly soft, scented with lavender or lilac. 2x as big. 2-ply! Any more opinions, please add. Any way that you think is good for improving toilet paper. Not for real.

It's under a cabinet, so I can't use votives-that-fit. I've thought about potpourri or miniature soaps, in various shapes of cordial glasses, for a purposeful use. Know hand-dipped candles joined by wicks would work, but be a little affected. Thought about magazines. Any other ideas?

I purchased this chair online < http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Sienna-Striped-Chenille-Accent-Chair/2084941/product.html > thinking that the wood would be finished with the same green shade, but the picture was deceiving. My chair looks like this: http://i3.tinypic.com/4qe14yu.jpg in my living room. Does it clash? Should I return it?

Also, are there options for refinishing the chair.. like can I stain the wood to make it look more like the Overstock.com picture?

Several years ago our pond dried up and we lost all of our fish. Now I want to restock the pond. Is there a "best" time of year to do this? I live in NC so I want bass/brim/catfish, etc. Should I also get some kind of algae eater? Thanks for your help

I love day lillies, and I have the perfect place for them at my new house. However, it's too cold now to dig it up and plant anything. Can I plant the bulbs in the next spring and still have them bloom the same year or do they need more time? Any tips for growing and caring for these flowers?
Thanks in advance! :)

I have a comforter with poly fill. It is new and my Mom washed my old one in the washer and all the filling bunched up in balls and it was lumpy and uneven.

How do I keep it like it is but get it clean?

I've got lots of geranium plants this year. I remember my Mum shouting at me in years gone by for not taking care of long-lost ones properly during the winter

What exactly am I supposed to do with them? They are in pots at the moment - do I just put the pots in the shed? Or take them out of the pots and wrap them up? And in what?

I have a large (up to an inch) gap between my floors and the baseboards. In the previous winters, I have rolled up linens and stuck it along the edges, but I had carpeting then. I tore the carpeting out and exposed this LARGE gap.
This needs to be a semi-permanent fix until I can fix the floors and put new molding /baseboards down (which will be a few years before I can accomplish that).
Aside form using expanding foam, any other suggestions?

I just changed the bulb maybe a week ago. I always have it on during the night time so it's not on all the time. I was holding my son at the time i turned it on and really scared me. i'm glad it didn't cut either of us. It's in alot of pieces all over! I've had the nightlight for a couple years now and it never made any bulbs explode before.
