We have a home security system that was installed 13yrs ago.
The company is out of business. The alarm system is hooked up throught the phone line for monitoring that is not in service.
We have cable, along with the digital phone which is ran through the cable.
Whenever cable goes out, the alarm sounds.
Is there a way to disconect the phone line from the alarm system?
There is a locked box in one of the closets and I cannot get into it unless I break it, which then I don't know what will happen and not too sure what wire to cut.
Cable company and phone co. have no answers. Alarm companies tell me it's not their system, so I am out of luck there.
Any electrical techs out there to help me?

the gable end of my property is starting to show wearing to brickwork, the actual bricks have started to crumble and are allowing water to penetrate through to my internal wall.i have had two builders round to my house, one say replace the bricks from £1000,another one says put water seal into concrete and get it rendered for £800,im now stuck to what to do,i believe the bricks are knackered,so would it be best replacing the bricks or to have all my gable wall rendered, any help would be appericated.thanks

I got a self-watering pot, which I was told was the kind to get for the plant I bought (can't remember the name, but its a common leafy plant w/ stalks of single white petals surrounding a pollen core...anyone know what its called?). Anyways, its been months, and I have kept the base filled, but the water just doesn't pass through the durn thing. The plant ends up drying out, and I just pour water directly on it to keep it going.

Is this a faulty product, or should I have soaked the pot before using or something?

I also have a one year warranty for the repairs of my home, but the builder ran into financial problems and now they are gone. What should I do? Where can i go for help?

I read a few questions on here about heat coils in the dryer burning out because of dryer sheets leaving a "film" on the lint trap. So I checked mine out & cleaned the trap out. As I was trying to put my trap back in, I noticed lint behind it, in the wall of the door (my lint trap is on the door of my dryer). I cleaned it out by sticking my hand in as far as I could reach inside (I now have scratches all over my hands!). I got more lint out of the door itself, then I got out of the trap in 6 months.

My questions are ..... how many people check behind the trap, is it normal for lint to go behind the trap & can this cause the heat coil to burn out as fast as if I didn't run warm soapy water over the trap to make sure that the "film" from the sheets wasn't gathering on the trap?

I just rented a new apartment that I will be moving into in January. This will be the first time I will have to pay for gas heating, and I have NO clue as to what that will cost me per month. Does anyone have any ideas?? It is about 830 square feet, and it is in the south (where it doesn't get AS cold, but still...) I had electric heat before, and my complex paid for our gas bills every month, so I have no idea what the costs are. Any suggestions, or ideas, would be greatly appreciated! I just want to know what I am getting into before I get into it! Thanks so much, in advance.

I live in an apartment and have very old metal windows that slide on a track horizontally. They constantly have condensation on them and the tracks are developing mold. I told my landlord and all he said was "buy some mildew cleaner". That's the answer I was expecting, as he cares more about the rent check than anything else. Don't say move since I can't afford to...we're getting by and where I live is the cheapest apartments in town and we don't qualify for subsidized housing.

The style of the cabinet doors are cathedral. It is well made and the inset is recessed into the door. Can I get them out and would it be best to use a router or a saw?
I got an estimate from a woodworker guy and he wanted $500 to get it done for 18 cabinet doors. Is that reasonable?
