thats what packing peanuts are for :-) secure the base and then fill in around the flowers with the peanuts. There are also a number of places like Mailboxes ect. or a UPS store that will help you pack and ship almost anything. without seeing the piece its hard to be specific.
Gary's answer is also a good suggestion. nothing says you cant combine our ideas and protect the flowers with tubes and then secure the lot with peanuts. Good luck

Take them out of the centerpiece and put them in a cardboard tube. These tubes are very stiff and will keep the flowers from bending. Then ship the tube and rest of the centerpiece either together or separately, whichever is easier (and cheaper).
