I am planning on planting bulbs for spring flowers in my flower beds. However, there are neighborhood cats who would most certainly dig them up when they use the flower bed as a toilet. Any idea how I can keep the cats out of there? Does garlic really work? Or cinnamon?

Our new water heater has turned our water into black, greasy water that smells like poison fumes. I called the company and they said we needed to install a mixing valve and an anode rod. They said it needed to be drained and then refilled adding in 1.5 gallons of bleach to flush it through.
They said the reason this is happening is, our well water which is rusty is not mixing with the aluminum anode rod.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks

We have a huge fly problem in the area we live in, and they get into the house very easily, and I am having a hard time getting rid of them. They're getting out of hand, and I'm open to any suggestions. And please, mature answers only. The house is clean, food not left out, etc. Thank you so much.

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm new to house plants, so I'm going to go for it anyway. I have a large, beautiful, potted hybiscus. One day, my dog got mad at me and ripped it out by the roots, and completely destroyed the root system. What was left was about a 6 inch sphere of roots at the base. The rest (about a 12 inch diameter root system) was destroyed. When he was done with it, not a spec of dirt was left on the roots. By the way, I was not home. Is there any way to salvage it? It looks like it's dying from the leaves down.

When you first light a match, all you see is a wisp of black smoke come out of the stick (If you're lucky). But once you blow out the match, greyish-white smoke comes out for quite a while, and same goes for the candle. Why does this happen instead of all the time?

I was also thinking of one for the shower, I could use my laptop in there, or maybe my blackberry. Any help with the design would be great.

I live in an apartment that has no outdoor space at all (no balcony). However, it has large floor-to-ceiling windows. I am on the 27th floor, with an absolutely unobstructed view. Can a satellite dish receive signal through a plate glass window?

Well, it is becoming winter time so there are expected spiders to come into the house. But it's been more then usual lately.

Mostly in my room. And the majority of them are big ones. My room is indeed, a mess. The other room we've been seeing them in the most is in my bathroom. It's not really cluttered or anything like how my room is. Just needs a scrubbing.

But what's with all the spiders??? My mom thinks it has something to do with under my bed, but under my bed I swear is the cleanest part of my room. There's only a small tool box and a couple of books.

Can anyone tell me why I keep seeing so many of them? Particularly in my room and bathroom?
