I have found that the best way to deal with people with dementia is to let them have their way when it isn't hurting them or others. Causing undue stress by arguing about where to wash clothes will be a negative experience for everyone involved. Don't try to reason with her--sometimes it is just not possible once dementia has set it and it will only frustrate the both of you. Also, taking away a task from her may make her feel unneeded and useless, cwhich is something a lot of elderly people already feel. When she has a job to do, she feels useful. Don't take that from her. Pray for patience.

Just let her be. Make sure she has enough soap and access to somewhere to dry them. If its hygiene you are worried about, get her a plastic tub for inside the sink and see if she will wash them out in there instead of just the regular sink.

Grandma here.... this is the way undies were washed back then. Give her something good to wash them with.

She is soiling them.If she washes them clean then let her.Just go in her room and get them when they are in her dresser and wash them good.It is a old way of doing your unmentionables...If she is family,deter her gently,it will pass..

I wouldn't worry too much about this as a "problem". Just be sure that she has extra's so she doesn't run out.. This is common among the elderly. Just let it be....
