I have a comforter with poly fill. It is new and my Mom washed my old one in the washer and all the filling bunched up in balls and it was lumpy and uneven.

How do I keep it like it is but get it clean?

Our dryer is small and it wont fit so we hang or lay it out to dry. The dasher in the washer is what causes the lumps.

You need to take your comforter to a laundromat to use a large washer without an agitator (i.e. a front loading washer - commercial size) & a large dryer.

The fill gets crushed & smushed in a small washer & dryer.

You can also go to a dry cleaner & ask them to simply launder it for your. It will cost about $20 to let them wash & dry it for you.

Laundrymat.
Large washer without an agitator.
Large dryer with some tennis balls or clean tennis shoes to 'beat' the filling while drying will prevent lumping.
If the stitching does not go through both sides to prevent the filling from shifting, the dryed filling will not stay put.

Wash as usual, but when you're drying, toss in a couple clean tennis balls to keep the filling fluffy.

This also aids with drying.

The tennis ball thing works well, if you can afford it dry cleaning is a great route.
