I have a couple of questions about sanding and staining wood

1. after sanding, what's the best way to get rid of all the sawdust?
2. how does the grit and quality of the sanding affect the stain? (I'm using pine wood). Does a rough sand make the stain not take as well? Does a bad (ie uneven) job sanding mean dark and light patches of stain?

Thanks !!

I just got something from my heating company (NSTAR) about locking in my price per therm for the gas supply charge portion of my gas bill for the winter heating season. They offer a fixed price of 0.9999 per therm. Currently it is 0.9799. Any advice about this, we all know heating apartments is gonna be bad like last year?. If I can save anything it will be a help???

When my home was built, they scraped the top soil off to level the yard and I have never been able to grow grass there at all. Just wondering if there is any kind of seed I could use to make grass take hold there without adding more soil back. Most of yard is fine but this is looking bad and it's been three years like this now. I am wanting to sell soon so need to do something.

State: California
County: Los Angeles
Zip: 90502

Do I need a permit to build a shed on the backyard if Im the homeowner? The County people are being vague and unhelpful. I dont think they know, or they dont want to tell because they want to wait till its done so they can give us a fine, like that Married With Children episode when Al builds that dog house.

I'm a 14 y/o girl... the colour it is right now is a gross blue-purple-gray-GROSS colour.
What do you think is a nice colour to paint it? I don't want pink. It will be a kind of calm, exotic themed, (hopefully)

I have a clothsline in my new house and put some clothes up today. I don't get it... I mean a dryer will dry faster and they will not be stiff or wrinkled. Why do so many people still hang out clothes? Is there an advantage that I am missing? Also, is if you leave them out overnight, they will have to dry the next day than. What if it rains.. do you have to wash them again? And why do some people hang wet clothes out in winter when they just get iced up? (I live in Canada). Please help me! No one at my last province hung out clothes. Here everyone does and I dont' get it. lol... is it purely for the fresh air smell in the linen?

We have a large mulch container we've been filling for over a year with kitchen scraps, yard clippings, ashes, etc., but the mulch has not been "cooking." Our only possible location for the container is in the shade, and our climate is mild summers and moderately cold winters. Is there anything we can do to make up for the lack of sunshine for our mulch? We haven't been able to find any commercial products at the garden stores or on-line. Thanks.

As seen in the pictures below i have a small tree "attempting" to live and grow on my front lawn.

http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff85/quantass/tree/

The problem is this tree has been very slow to mature and during the summer there arent very many leaves that this tree carries nor do they have a lushous green look to them (the color more resembles an autumn fall period). I strongly suspect the reason for this is that this tree is damaged at the main tree trunk area (please see the pictures).

Can someone tell me, is there a way to save my tree (when you look at these pictures) and have it grow properly? Winter is approaching again and i figure this little tike won't last another winter in this state.

Thanks

And the walls are yellow.
But they aren't supposed to be. We aren't going to re-wallpaper the walls.
But we were wondering if using bleach would help whiten the walls.
I've heard that using peroxide can work, but I wanted to ask first.
