I'm building a new garage, and I want to install a black and white checkered tile floor in a portion of it. What type of tile should I use? I know linoleum wouldn't work, it has to be a harder surface than that. I'm not looking for the interlocking rubber/plastic floor tile, I'm looking for tile that you actually glue down permanently. I wondered if asphalt tile is what I should use, but I've also heard that asphalt tile is easily softened by solvents and greases (which it is bound to see).

I'm trying to put up a wooden fence along part of my drive-way, but there's a small concrete retaining wall (6" to 24" high and 8-10" depth) separating the properties. how can I connect the fence to the concrete retaining wall without making it look like the trailer court?

I just put in new laminate flooring and I'm loving it, except we chipped a couple of peices when installing it. I was told there are repair kits for such problems but I'm having trouble finding any. Do any of you know of any repair kits for laminate flooring? Links?

Though I love Tinkerbell, I want to make this a more "generic" fairy-themed room, but with really cute fairies that are similar to Tinkerbell. Your ideas and any websites that have bedding or decor would be greatly appreciated!

I have a single handle twist on shower faucet. It is fairly new. I am on a private well with lots of fine sand in the water. The faucent on cold barely trickles out so it must be partially plugged with sand. How do I remove the cartridge? I have taken off all the hardware, but what is left will not budge. I read I need a special tool, but the instructions say a twist and pull method applies. Can one remove this cartirdge by just yanking on it? Any advice or links is appreciated.

We were without power for over a week this winter so to heat water we filled an aluminum kettle and heated it on a propane burner outside. Worked well but left the kettle with a thick layer of soot. What works best to get rid of the soot?

I am looking at a house made of cinder block with paint on the outside. I keep getting different stories as to if it is or isn't hard to heat/cool. Also are there any other problems to watch for ?
All of the floor coverings have been removed, what works best for slab floors? What is the best paint for the block and can you "build" walls on the inside to improve insulation and look ?
