I am considering installing a keypad door lock on the front door of my home. Will the elements of Chicago effect it use? Extreme hot to extreme cold temperatures. Wet to dry atmosphere.

As long as the mechanism is properly sealed, you shouldn't have any problems. It will probably mean paying more than the absolute minimum, but obviously you don't want a cheap lock set on your house!

There are mechanical and electrical locks with keypads, I can't say I've heard of a problem with either style.

probably not... i mean why would they make a keypad that was suppose to go on your "outside door" and not make it be able to stand outdoor elements?

They use them in the Artic Circle at government sites.
