The old mercury thermostat doesn't have any markings and only had two connections for each of the wires: a yellow (or white) one and black one. The new thermostat has a FAN ON - AUTO switch and a HEAT OFF COOL switch. The markings for the terminals on the new thermostat are R, W; Y, and G. The system is an old oil burner, and it's (as near as I can tell) 24volts.

I need a place where I can ask questions about old lamps, chandeliers, and other antique looking items that I am not sure what to do with them. I want to be able to replace parts but if they are valuable I DO NOT want to loose it.

Hi,I would like to install new rangehood. The existing is very, very old and is plugged into the wall into outlet near it
(so distasteful).I would like to fish wire through the wall and
connect it to this outlet.it is so close 4 ft of wire may do the
job.The receptacle only has 2 wires coming into it and also
2 prong. So why I am at it I will upgrade the receptacle.
I will like to know do I connect the wire to the other set of screws on the receptacle and then wire to rangehood or
do I splice? What type of electrical wire do I buy and does
it come in like 10 ft (romex)instead of spool because I do not
need much? last, can I purchase this wire at hardware store?
thanks all

After it runs for a couple of minutes, there is a slight " hot electrical" smell coming out of the side vents. I unplugged it and haven't used it for risk of an electrical fire. Should I start shopping for a new one or is it fixable?
p.s. I love this microwave.
