Heat the skillet and then scrub using a wet SOS pad, being careful not to burn you fingers. I have a couple of stainless steel skillets (one for pancakes and the other for anything that the kids want to burn up) that get grease or butter burnt on them all the time. It's the best way I've found to clean them, and the way my grandmother did the one skillet for the 50 years before she gave it to me. So I think she had the right method for cleaning it, I've been cleaning it the same way for over 30 years now and it always come out free of burnt grease and shiny clean. All stainless steel will get slight scratches in it, it's the deep gouges made from utensils you want to avoid making.

Spray a good grease remover in it. Grease lightening for example. Then take a fine (0000) steel wool pad and scrub. The steel wool is so fine it will not scratch.

use a grease remover, let it sit for a few minutes and wipe with a napkin, if it doesn't come off easily, add some more and let it sit more time, now, if u don't have grease remover and you don't want to go out and buy some use lemon and a soft scrub (remember the word SOFT), hot water and dishwashing liquid works pretty well too!

A paste of dish soap and baking soda- and a lot of elbow grease and scrubbing pad. I had to deal with this several times.

I would try Goo Gone and let it sit. Then wipe off. If it works, wash as normal with dish soap.
