I was at the beach and my shoes smell really bad now! I tried washing them with detergent and bleach, and it didn't work.

If I can remember correctly I tried several washes with bleach and soaking but they still had an odor. The one that got the smell out was soaking over night in just enough solution to cover them, using hot water and tide (1/4 cup) with about a cup of vinegar. You want it super soapy and the vinegar is a neutralizer that helps kill the odor. Then I washed a couple of more times to get all the soap out with regular wash cycles. It's hard to get the ocean smell out of them but it can be done. We always had problems with shoes with our two kids when we lived at the beach. Hope it helps you, good luck!

Well, things dissolve in like things. So, if your shoes were ruined by natural salt water (and all its components--including algae and bacteria) try soaking them overnight in a solution containing sea salt, which you can get at the grocery store? It should leach out the problem. You could also try vinegar overnight too. Both cheap solutions.

if they're white, you could try putting some lemon juice on them and leaving them in the sunshine for awhile, then wash them again.

did you put them in the washer or just scrub them? the smell should leave if you wash them in the washer on hot.

You never will, buy a new pair and keep those for the beach.
