I'm trying to put up a wooden fence along part of my drive-way, but there's a small concrete retaining wall (6" to 24" high and 8-10" depth) separating the properties. how can I connect the fence to the concrete retaining wall without making it look like the trailer court?

if i were doing it ,i would drill through the posts and counter sink the holes , mark the wall where the holes are and drill the wall so you can use tap-cons to hold the posts. however you choose to do it, keep the posts as high off the driveway as you can as this will move independently of the wall.

Drill out the posts and then rent a roto hammer and get the appropriate quick bolts. Drill into the concrete, then place the quick bolt in the hole with the washer and nut screwed n flush. Use a hammer to drive the bolt all the way in and then a wrench to tighten the nut.

That will hold the board to the wall.

Go to the hardware store buy brackets that will fit on the post, attach it to the post, drill holes in the concrete with a rotohammer, you can rent them at any equipment rental. Attach the brackets to the concrete with expansion bolts.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
