I have a single handle twist on shower faucet. It is fairly new. I am on a private well with lots of fine sand in the water. The faucent on cold barely trickles out so it must be partially plugged with sand. How do I remove the cartridge? I have taken off all the hardware, but what is left will not budge. I read I need a special tool, but the instructions say a twist and pull method applies. Can one remove this cartirdge by just yanking on it? Any advice or links is appreciated.

No daren, that rip & pull stuff is bunk.
straddle the tub and look at the faucet from the outside. look for the nuts/allen screws/trox etc. once you find the right one, shut the water off at the main, open the water and drain out the line then proceed to take apart the faucet and place a rag on the drain so not to loose nuts etc.
start taaking it off peice by peice until you get to the screen/filter and clean it/blow the sand out and replace it the same way.
you can do it, go for it and live a little.

I don't lnow about moen because it was 50 years ago that I was a plumber. Most of the single lever faucets have an allen screw hidden underneath, you loosen that and the handle and cover comes off. Then you can unscrew the top and everything falls out. It wouldn't hurt to go to a Home hardware store and read the box of one like you have. Your faucet is probably ok. Sometimes the dirt makes a little ball that is just the right size to plug the hole in the valve. You just turn the water on and it may come out. good luck Oh turn the water suply off first.

I had a similar problem.
Do you have the sketch of the parts? That would make it easier.
Anyway, there's a part that is like a small clip that holds everthing together in the cylinder. Take a brush and clean off all the areas you can get to and look closely at the innards of the cylinder. It's a small square clip about a quarter inch square. It will pull out by pushing it with your finger nail.
Actually, if it's like mine it will anyway. Try that and I hope it works.
Try finding a technie phone number under Moen in google and they probably have listed a 800 number and give them a call.
Actually, that's how I found the little clip. When I called a moen techie they talked me through the repair process.
Thanks and good luck
John
