Basically, if you mix the 2 paints together, the same thing that happens when you mix oil and water together will happen... the water will float on the oil. You can't mix the two as they are incompatible.
If however, you are talking about painting with oil-based primer and then painting over it with latex, it's not a problem. But you can't just paint latex paint over oil paint, as it won't stick properly and it will peel and bubble, sooner or later. And the minute you scratch the wall, the latex paint will come right off.
You can't put oil paint over latex paint, because it won't stick to the latex, which is basically a plastic...
Stick to one kind of paint, it's a better way to go all around.

Oil based paints are made out of oil and have a different composition then latex which are made from water. Both should NOT be mixed. Unless you are going for the crappy short lived look.

Latex is a water based paint and oil and water do not mix.

Only if you paint your barn or doghouse with it. Oil base paint repel water and latex paint absorbs water. My advice is let your paint set and le the latex paint float to the top as it is lighter then oil-base paint. dip off the top latex paint and you might be OK .sorry but this happens all to often when using both close together

I mix oil based paint with any eater based paint all the time, BUT, only mix enough for immediate use. It is not recommended to keep for any length of time. The oil base paint tends to ball up &ames the paint unusable. The furniture I do paint with the two mixed comes out beautiful. Hope this helps!

I accidentally mixed 250ml of oil-based paint with 2.5 litres of water-based today and had no problems at all. The paint actually spread a little better with the oil-based in there. I can't speak for all paint formulations or ratios of water to oil-based, but I was relieved and happy with the results of my muddled paints.

Does not sound like a good idea to me. Oil and latex (water soluble) do not mix. Unless you are looking for some freaky results.
Latex for walls, oil looks great on trim.

The same thing that happens when you mix oil and water, they separate.
