We can hear the drip noise if the house is very quite, like late at night. We have, thus far, been unable to locate where the plumbing line runs through the wall. The steady-to-slow-to-no-drip sounds last for only a minute or two after the water tap is turned off. Should we be concerned about black mold growing between the walls? Is there a way to detect where the defective pipe fitting might be without breaking into a wall first. The house was built in 1989.

Hi, I have a wooden leg that is beautifully carved and varnished. Recently though, my good leg has shrunk, which means that my wooden leg is now longer. This makes me walk around in circles. I did at one time try walking in the kerb, but some roads only have a kerb on one side, and that meant that I couldn't get back after I had walked down it. I have managed to solve this problem by nailing a piece of wood to the good leg, so that they are both at the same height. The problem now is that when I walk down the road people think I am a horse and sometimes throw sugar lumps at my head. Do you think I should paste some carpet under my leg ends?

Both duvet cover and down comforter are the same size (full) but after a few days my comforter ends up in a ball inside the cover. It is a pain to fix it. The only way I can think of to fix it would be to sew the comforter in place. But that is a little more permanent than I was hoping for. Thank you!

I have a soapstone sculpture that was painted, but over time has faded. I would like to repaint it but am unsure as to what kind of paint I can use on it. Does anyone out there have any clues for me? Thanks in advance.

I just had a new furnance installed last week. I have a home that is 104 years old (I've only owned it a year and a half) with all the plumbing connections in the basement crawl space. Even though I have insulated all the pipes I can get to, they froze today. I have a heat tape on there now but my question is:

Wouldn't it be the more intelligent solution to vent heat into the basement to prevent this from happening again? Is it unusual and/or wasteful to heat a partial basement normally?

I live 100 miles from the Texas coast and we had some mild frost this winter which turned my ferns slightly brown & discolored. If I cut back all or mostly all of the winter damaged fronds, will they come back in spring?
