my house was built in the 1920s and it still has a lot of the original details, including all of the glass doorknobs. are these valuable at all if i sold them on ebay or something? i love them but my husband hates them because they're stripped inside and could fall off at any second. he's afraid he'll get locked in the bathroom when i'm not home, LOL!

I recently bought 4 silver Reed and Barton dessert cups at a garage sale. Three of them polished up with no problems, but one has a "stain" on it. It looks almost like a streak of blue flame going up the side of the cup. Does anyone know what causes this? And is there a polish that will remove it?

A yellow sock found it's way into the wash when I was washing a shirt and now the shirt is an off-white color.

Would soaking it in bleach (or something else) overnight make it white again?

I have a 4.5" right angle grinder with a 5/8" arbor. I have recently lost my adapter to use the flat cut off disks. This adapter is a domed washer thing that compensates for the flat disk, whereas the standard grinding wheel has a dome on top. I am having NO LUCK finding a replacement part. The manufacturer does not have one. If you know what I am talking about please help.

My mother used to tell me to quit jumping on the bed because it will wear a hole in the mattress. I don't live with her anymore, and I jump on my bed when I feel like it now--which is nearly every day. I know someone will plan to say that the best prevention is not jumping on the bed at all, but that is completely out of the question as I'm addicted to this activity. Would you recommend getting a mattress pad or something to cover that up to prevent premature wear to the mattress?

What about laying a piece of plywood across the top of the mattress?...although it will reduce the amount of bounce I get.

I'm sanding me guitar, there's a couple of spots that stay rough and a little whiter from the rest of the guitar. I'm sanding with a rubber sanding block with 120 grit paper, do I just keep sanding like normal or just worry about it when I start the 220 grit.

I love to garden but I am having a hard time finding a seed or seedling company that ships outside the continental US. I live in a town with only one small plant nursery, but the selection is extremely limited. I live in Zone 4, so the area is still warm enough to grow most plants.

I'm buying a new home & recently found i can choose the colors of the carpet, paint, floors, appliances & everything else i want.
I want a light blue carpet but i'm thinking of a lighter color like teastain it is a pretty color. I like darker colors but i heard they are terriable for resale. I heard i should go with light colors.
1. Does the colors i choose really hurt the resale value of the home?
2. Should i go with custom wooden blinds or the plain white ugly blinds?
All advice will be considered.

How do we get the Homeowner's Association off our backs?!

We have a home in San Antonio, TX. You can call this a vacation home for my parents so on one really lives there on a regular basis. I have hired a maintenance man to clean the yard, cut the grass, pull the weeds, etc. Since it is winter, his schedule is once a month.

Just because a few weeds popped up, here comes the homeowner's association warning us of the weeds. How do we get them to BACK OFF!

After finding a single cockroach in my bathroom 6 months ago I have again seen one in my daughter's room. There is an 'abandoned' home next to us that by most (all) accounts was totally ready for the wrecking ball. It still stands and lo and behold, I continue to occasionally (every 4 months or so) encounter a roach. My question is this: Do I have reason to suspect infestation or is this to be expected? Our home was professionally treated 8 years ago for termites with product preventing roaches as well.
Also, we have been letting our outside dog sleep in the basement for the past few nights. Against my 'instruction', my husband and daughters have been feeding him downstairs and leaving the dish down there for me to find later.
