Any unfortunate experience of having intruders/burglars in your house? If they want to get in obviously they can get through most things, but to stop them or deter them without spending vast sums of money!

I need help to identify a bird that has been frequenting my winter feeder. It sort of looks like a white breasted nuthatch, but it's body seems more solid dark gray and it has a yellow beak. It is rather roundish, with a bright white belly. Any ideas? I get 5 to7 visiting my feeder at a time--they arrive in a group. They seem to be at my feeder at the same timeas the black capped chicadees.

I read an article about bed bugs last night, and then could not sleep.

I do wake up with mysterious red, itchy areas, and they say bed bugs are a growing problem in my area (NYC)

I used this to put up Christmas decorations, and just cannot shift it. I've tried nail varnish remover - no good.
Thanks. Ann

we recently brought a house for rental property and it has a dishwasher, which doesn't work, planning on replacing it, but it frequently backs up water in it and overflows.

The cold frame is connected to the house and contains cacti, which need to be kept at about 6C. I am struggling to keep the cacti in suitable conditions and may lose them in a hard freeze.

I own an ex council house in ablock of 4 flats, all the others are still council owned. My problem is this....... the sound proofing in these houses arent very great to put it lightly, and I was wondering that if I complained enough to the council due to hearing neighbours having sex and playing loud music, they would somehow sound proof the remaining houses which they still own? I have had to listen to thump thump music for thepast year and although the neighbour beside me stopped, the ones below have started.I knpw now that I should be keping a diary of these incidents ect adn keep in contact with the local police adn council, but i do feel that some of the proble, is poor built housing. Can anyopne shed some light on this? Thanks in advance

The water in my area is really hard and tastes disgusting. Can anyone recommend a way to soften it that doesn't cost the earth. I had one quote from a water softening company and it was well over 1000gbp. I can buy a lot of bottles of spring water for that. He was also going to have to do lots of drilling holes in my wall and putting new pipes all over the place.

The air in my room is really dry -- I think it's because of my oil-filled radiator. It has a tank for water, which should humidify the air, but I still wake up constantly throughout the night with a parched mouth. Does anyone have any ideas how I can raise the moisture in the air in my room?
