The tiles are cheap, about the 99 cent variety sold at the local home improvement store, I think the the tiles cracked because they were not installed correctly. Tiles were cracked throught the grout and into the next tile, grout was faulty, breaking out all over. The tile are do not seem securely bonding to the subfloor.
The landlord wants to charge over $1800 for repairs. I think this way overpriced.

I recently asked about a home solution to take stains off of countertops. Someone suggested scrubbing with a baking soda and water paste. After trying everything else imaginable, I was amazed at how easy that did the job! Does anyone know any other little cleaning solutions...stuff you find around the house...that are as effective?

Hi. I took 3 years of shop class back when I was in high school...I really like to build things such as cabinets, desks, etc. The bad thing is, now I live in an apartment...in other words, no tools. Are there places where you can pay to use other people's equipment? Or would there just be too much liability involved in that sort of venture? If I was still living back home I'm sure my old HS would let me use the shop after hours...but unfortunately I moved 1000 miles away for college and also don't know anyone down here w a good garage, either. I would really like to get to use my hands more and build some custom furniture and accessories. Any suggestions? Other than the obvious of moving into a house and buying thousands worth of equipment ;-)

My hot water pipes froze overnight! I live in Chicago, it's 8 below zero with a windchill of 24 below! My basement apartment faces South and I put the cold water taps on a drip to keep from freezing. Unfortunately, I didn't do the same for the hot water tap and now they're frozen. The laundry room is just outside my kitchen door where the pipes are located; the hot water heater is in the SW corner of that area too. I don't think the hot water heater has been all all night....it's a big one...can the water in there freeze too? I have a big space heater turned on now out there. It's frigid but sunny so the pipe wall is getting sunlight. What else can I do? Calling for a service call is out of the question....no money, no credit cards for this kind of situation (I'm paying off my Mom's medical bills & funeral costs, so I'm broke). PLEASE, ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS!

Does anyone know how to fix a kitchen sink tap? Mine is a mono mixer type tap - therefore i'm not sure whether it uses washers or not.....It is backed against the kitchen wall, will this affect dismantling? How do I dismantle it? (The taps are quarter turn - single flow mono mixer type). Thanks.
