Are they cemented ? Or can they just be put togeather?

I assume you mean the sewer lateral...that connects your house to the sewer.

Depends on age of the house - some older laterals were clay pipe. Then cast iron was used and now I assume PVC.

If you mean is the bell end PVC glued - answer is yes it must be glued. You should aslo make sure it is oriented in the right direction. The bell ends should face the house - this prevents the interior of the pipe presenting a lip onto which all manner of things can get stuck.

Building codes determine the type and size of the main sewer drain line from your house. In some locales, terra cotta/clay lines are still used, concrete pipe in others, cast iron ductile is common, and in most newer constructions, plastic pvc is becoming the norm. As each pipe is joined in a different manner, how that is accomplished is dependent on the type of pipe used.

you can run a new one with updated pvc materials and get rid of the old die cast
