We have a huge basement that we have bamboo flooring to lay down on. The question is...I heard that floating the floor will actually devalue the house because it is a cheap way to do the floors. Is this true and we have a cement slab to install the flooring on...how would you do it?

Mold is forming on vertical blinds in my conservatory... and there is lots of condensation on the inside of the windows.

Why is this happening?
and how can we prevent it?
and how to remove the mold already on the blinds?

any answers would be helpful thanks.

I seem to remember that you could buy small discs that changed colour if CO was present. Now all I can find are alarms that cost anything up to £40. I know you can't put a price on health, but when you are on a limited income the price is important!

They are like vermin. They make so much mess and are ruining the paint work on cars. They fly around for half an hour (usually 5pm) before returning to the trees.
Can anyone suggest anything to help?
We have tried crow scarers, and next door has even bought a plastic owl that someone reccomended.
Thanks

I have an indoor houseplant (a little tree). I have recently repotted this and it is no doing so well. See pics below for example:

www.rwfts.com/plant1.jpg
www.rwfts.com/plant2.jpg

I think the soil is wet so haven't watered since repotting. Today I tried topping up the soil a little and firming it a bit more. I watered again because the soil felt dry. I also misted the plant last night and again this morning.

I'd love any advice anyone has on what I can do to ensure this plant survives .

I rent an older apartment with hardwood floors. They were not in great shape to begin with. But now after housebreaking a puppy and a sloppy boyfriend the floors area mess. I have cloudy spots where the dog has peed and wet shoes were left. Plus there are some spots where the coat of whatever has been worn off. How should I go about fixing this prob? How do I determine if the floor is waxed, varnish, or what? Plus how can I restore this? I need to know for the sake of my deposit. I plan on living in the apartment for quiet some time. I love it. Please don't tell me to hire a professional I need info I can do. Thanks everything is appreciated.

We have been quoted £1,800.00 for 3 windows. This includes one large bay window (3 sections) and 2 large windows for other rooms. Is this a good price or should we continute to look elsewhere? They are white uPVC double-glazed windows.

I have these Ikea light pine shelves/racks ( called Gorm) that have turned horribly mouldy and grey after the recent bouts of continuous rain for days and days here(due to global warming no doubt). I have tried to clean it off with Lysol but some mould residue is still there; i reckon that to prevent that from happening again, might be better to varnish or paint it. Will this help? And what type of varnish/paint should be used? Is there also any other way to stop my collection of board games from suffering the same fate? (Some are already beginning to show signs of mould). Did consider getting a room dehumdifier or buying lots of cupboards and putting powder dehumidifiers in each - but both of these solutions involve spending a fair bit - at least $1000 - which I can't afford right now. Thanks for your suggestions.

The water in my apartment is leaving red stains where it stands. its not orange like rust, but red as if i spilled some cherry koolaid and couldn't get all of the stain out. it shows up on the counter as a very light pink, around the bottoms of bottles in my shower, and even blood red around the pump cap of my girlfriend's face wash, which is also in the shower. any ideas as to what is causing this and how to treat it?
