I dont know how you managed to time it! but 8 out of 24 sounds quite efficient, anything to 12/24 would be ok. Depends on the size/wattage, but it is probably costing you about 65 - 80p per week at that rate. (UK)

It will turn off the compressor when it has reached its required temperature in order to conserve power and not lower the temperature further. Only 8 hours a day - it must be well insulated and very efficient - lucky you.

Of course there will be juice going through the circuits so it can monitor its temperature 24 hrs a day - but the consumption for this work will be negligible.

Surely a fridge freezer should be working 24 hours a day otherwise it starts to defrost anything in it.
It shouldn't be turned off at all
