How to get rid of skunks that are living under a deck or house.
The easiest way is to put a light under the house or deck after the skunks have left for the night. When the skunks return before dawn they will be repelled by the light and will find another area to sleep.
Good luck.
The other alternative is trying to trap & remove them. (& not get sprayed), or call an animal removal company. *but those cost $$*
Try the light first...get an outdoor type that you can pick up at Home Depot that will keep it bright under your deck.

Find a 55 gallon drum that will hold water and fill it about 2/3 full and put it somewhere in the skunks area. Then get a chunk of Styrofoam and float it in the water with an open can of cat food on top. Then take a long, wide board and make a ramp to the rim of the barrel. The skunk will smell the cat food and fall into the barrel trying to get it. It's kind of cruel, but he will eventually exhaust himself and drown without spraying anything and stinking up your house or yard.
I only suggest this method because you said 'farm house' in your question. You can also catch the neighbors or your own cat this way, so it might not be a good idea in a residential neighborhood.

The following 3 things always work for us, for skunks, squirrels, possums, and raccoons:
1) get a cheap little radio (or old clock radio), turn it on as loud as it will go, and put it in as far under the house as you can. Make sure you tune it to an "all talk" radio station. And make sure you've got new batteries in it so it won't stop. The constant noise will drive them out. But if you have solid floors, you shouldn't hear the noise yourself.
2) Also, place a cheap flashlight with new batteries under the house, in as far as you can. Leave it on. The constant light will bother them.
3) Once they leave, you have to dig a narrow trench all around your foundation, at least 8 inches down. Put chicken wire (it's really cheap) in the trench, and then backfill with the dirt. This will keep them out in the future, because they don't usually dig down that deep.

skunks don't like the smell of ammonia so get some old clothes that haven't been washed, dump some ammonia on them and put them around where the skunk is getting in.. one whiff of the ammonia and they wont return to that area. if this doesn't work call a professional to come out and trap it (best left to pro cause skunks might carry rabies).

Skunks like any other wildlife need three basic things, food, water and shelter. Take one or two away and skunk will leave.

we had one under the porch that wouldn't
go away. we used mothballs, that didn't work. finaly we quit putting bread out for the birds and it went away, so i guess without realizing it we were feeding him. make sure there is nothing around he can eat. good luck.
