Use a piece of cloth (an old pillow case for example), slightly dampened, on top of your pants as you iron. That way you will not have the iron running directly over the material of your pants - hence no shiny areas. Some people make a suitably sized piece of cotton type material - an 'ironing cloth' - specifically for pressing pants and similar clothing.

When you iron your pants, Take a mans handkerchief and put in on the part you are about to iron, Use steam iron and that should solve your problem.
