Can I use rail road tiles to outline a pond? will they create a health hazard for the wild life or fish? I know that they are in the enviorment all the time but will constant contact with water create a problem?

RR Ties are coated with creasote which may not be good for aquatic life. . However the amount of creasote they leach will be less in a bigger lake than a smaller one

bad idea.. very bad.. ya see when they treat the rail road tiles they use a chemical that causes cancer (in rats when fed like 20 pounds of it).. and there is also oil and fuel and tons of other chemicals in it.. not exactly a good idea to put it in a place where it can seep out.. The rail road tiles are out in the environment when they are attached to the railroal track.. but they are always in contact with water either, they are treated with a water resistant chemical, But they aren't underwater at all times.. and they aren't in contact with water at all times.. so ya see.. rail road tiles are ok to use in the landscape.. but not near a water feature in your landscape.
