I find a scoop of Astonish stain remover in every white wash banishes yellowing and gives a bright, zingy whiteness. It's much cheaper also, than the Vanish version of the same thing and I think it works better!

You can buy those sachets of glo white in Woolworths or Sainsbury's and put them in a wash with your clothes. I find that a scoop of Vanish Oxi Action Whitening with each white wash helps maintain the whiteness. Washing in Biological powder instead of Non bio also helps keep them white. What you are looking for is blue-tinted optical brighteners as this is what gives the illusion of pure white clothes.

The Queen of Clean (1998) suggests automatic dishwasher detergent. "Fill a bucket with the hottest possible water for the fabric...and add 2 tablespoons of any brand of any brand...Soak for 30 minutes or overnight...Dump into the washer and launder with your detergent as usual" If you want to do it in the washer she says to "fill the machine with water and add 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of automatic dishwasher detergent. Agitate for several minutes and then add clothes. Soak as directed above and then add detergent and launder as usual" She also suggests using Bluing found in laundry aisle.

I use a couple of scoops of Oxyclean in with whites. It brings even 'old' whites up whiter. You can also leave whites out overnight in the frost, thats a brilliant natural whitener! Works well with net curtains if you still use them!!

you want a good BLEACH. CLOROX common works acceptable. great warm WASH WATER. RINSE 2 situations, the first rinse warmth, the second one rinse chilly. do no longer USE warm putting with whites, it is going to turn them YELLOW, rather in case you take advantage of those stupid dryer sheets. those sheets include OILs which will reason your outfits to have extra stains & attraction to extra airborne dirt and dirt for your clothing. even as dealing with whites, you ought to apply a liquid softner that has BLUING contained in the product, like DOWNY. Dryer sheets will damage white outfits & maximum different fabrics once you go away them in DIRECT contact with the textile (fabrics).

Try putting some ECOVER laundry bleach (powder) in with your washing, or soak it in it for an hour before washing. The powder is meant for laundry so is gentle.
