How do we get the Homeowner's Association off our backs?!

We have a home in San Antonio, TX. You can call this a vacation home for my parents so on one really lives there on a regular basis. I have hired a maintenance man to clean the yard, cut the grass, pull the weeds, etc. Since it is winter, his schedule is once a month.

Just because a few weeds popped up, here comes the homeowner's association warning us of the weeds. How do we get them to BACK OFF!

With regard to the Maintenance man, I trust him. Without his knowledge, I have driven down to my parents' home and checked on the grass. The yard is neatly cut and the area kept clean. He does his job and he does it well.

They're hardly 6 inches high. The HOA is just on a high horse and the neighborhood included.

Homeowner Associations are the bane of our existance if they start acting uppity and it sound like yours is. I would suggest that in the winter the maintenance man maybe cleans up once a month except after big storms where he will have to clean more often.

Is there any way you can talk to the Homeowners Association and explain to them that you are changing the maintenance mans schedule to once a week and after big storms. Ask them what they think you should do about summer, get them involved.
Homeowners Association members usually are home all day just thinking up ways to make you suffer, so get them on something constructive. Regarding the weeds>isn't there a weed/feed you can spread on your lawn.

If your property is in an HOA, then it is subject to the rules of that HOA.

I doubt they would be giving you a warning because "a few weeds popped up" - our HOA warns when weeds are over 6" high and it's evident that no one is doing anything about them.

I think from what i experience, the homeowner's assn. is generally active with a bunch of retirees who need praise and recognition and want that more from you than anything else. .

Here is my solution that really worked. Donate $50 to the homeowners assn to plant flowers or shrubs at the entrance. I did that and suddenly the nonsense stoped. Somehow you become one of their favorites and its forbidden then to attack you about anything. They will walk over then and tug out the weeds themself, probably the President of the association..

The rules of the HOA are recorded in the Clerk of Court office at the local courthouse. Go get a copy of it and read it. If you are right then wave it under your neighbors nose. If you are wrong then abide by the rules. m

What is the HOA for? Obviously not lawn maintenance. Check with your attorney - you may be out of luck, HOA's have a lot of power at times...

I think the issue is the maintenance man. Once a month should be more than adequate in the winter.

Pull the weeds. There really isn't anything else you can do. They're following the CC&R's that your parents agreed to when they bought the property. Trust me...they won't back off.
