After finding a single cockroach in my bathroom 6 months ago I have again seen one in my daughter's room. There is an 'abandoned' home next to us that by most (all) accounts was totally ready for the wrecking ball. It still stands and lo and behold, I continue to occasionally (every 4 months or so) encounter a roach. My question is this: Do I have reason to suspect infestation or is this to be expected? Our home was professionally treated 8 years ago for termites with product preventing roaches as well.
Also, we have been letting our outside dog sleep in the basement for the past few nights. Against my 'instruction', my husband and daughters have been feeding him downstairs and leaving the dish down there for me to find later.

Roaches will eat anything and they love dogfood. The dish and dog slobber needs to be cleaned up after feeding or theyll keep coming back.

I bet the house next door is harboring an infestation. When they get around to demolishing it be sure to have your home treated prior or theyll all run to your house. And everybody else's house nearby. Gross, huh.

Yeah, I'd say you may have an infestation, no thanks to the house next door (just a guess- where it's been uninhabited for quite some time) and your husband and daughter leaving a dogfood "invitation" downstairs.

Call a reputable exterminator to come and treat your home- kill all unwanted residents AND prevent future "move-ins". Also ask the agent that comes to teach your family how to preveint unintentionally "inviting" new tenants.

FYI--
I've heard that "dusting" works well-- powdered glass is put inside the walls in your home- it's contained and non-toxic, so it doesn't affect your family, but it cuts the underside of any/all insects/aracnids that visit the inside of your walls, killing them.
